Success in the Camden Youth Awards

Regent High School recently celebrated success at the Camden Youth Awards, when Maruf, a student in Year 9, was presented with the award for Inspirational Young Person of the Year.

The Camden Youth Awards are for students aged 13-19 (or 25 for young people with additional needs) and are an opportunity to acknowledge, celebrate and give recognition to young people in Camden who have made significant progress in their own lives, achieved something substantial or have made considerable contributions to other people or their community.  Winners are selected based on: the level of commitment and dedication they have shown; how significant or worthwhile was their contribution or progress; the level of personal skill, attributes and character demonstrated; and how inspiring or moving is their story.

Maruf was presented with his award by Cllr Abdul Hai, Cabinet Member for Young People and Cohesion, at Camden House, near Camden Lock.  Maruf was joined by his mother, Head of Year, Usman Shahid, and Teaching Assistant, Shakira Choudhury.

Speaking of his success, Maruf said, ‘I’m very happy and excited to receive this award.’

Headteacher of Regent High School, Gary Moore, said, ‘I am delighted for Maruf that he has been celebrated in this way.  Maruf’s hugely positive demeanour and commitment to school life are inspiring to all of us at Regent High School every day.  I am glad that his infectious enthusiasm for life has now been shared with other young people across the borough.

Usman Shahid, Maruf’s Head of Year, said ‘The celebration event was wonderful.  The atmosphere in the room was electric, and it was fantastic for Maruf and his family to be able to celebrate amongst some of Camden’s most remarkable young people.  I know that the rest of Year 9, and all at Regent High School, will join me in saying a further huge congratulations to Maruf!’
