Student ambassadors get skilled up at The Guardian
Our Year 7 students, along with a small group of Year 12s, will be taking part in The Guardian Pop Up Literacy Festival on 30 June and 1 July, which will give students the opportunity to meet with writers, illustrators, poets and storytellers.
As a result of the Pop Up Festival Ambassador Programme, three of our students were invited to become trainee journalists for the day, visiting The Guardian Head Office to learn skills in interviewing, writing, editing, photography and even creating their own newspaper front page to promote the festival.
Students Abdul Khan, Louis Szopinski and Hani Mohamed met with authors Nii Parkes and James Mayhew and interviewed them in a press conference which explored the authors’ love for writing, reading and illustrating books.
Our Pop Up ambassadors will now be supporting the festival organisers to report on the festival events, writing articles and taking photographs from a young person’s point of view. The best articles will be posted online by The Guardian.
