Student Council get a taste of Parliament

In May, some of our Student Council representatives were given the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. The students were invited on a guided tour round the House of Lords and the House of Commons, during which they learnt about key events in the palace's history and the history of the monarchy in the UK.

Students were able to appreciate the magnificent art that exists within the palace, including observing the specially commissioned stained glass piece for the Queen's upcoming Jubilee and holding one of the Queen's Messengers £70,000 gold identity necklaces.

Following the tour, students met with local MP Frank Dobson to discuss and explore key issues that had arisen during his time as Health Secretary and Camden MP. Frank openly talked about his favourite moments as a Member of Parliament and amazed students with one of his greatest achievements in the role - introducing the Meningitis C jab to the UK. Student Council representatives relished the opportunity to ask a number of good questions and were captivated by the responses given.

Students found the trip a great insight into politics and the parliament and left with new knowledge which they will be feeding back to the rest of the School Council during their upcoming meetings.
