Public speaking success at Regent High School
Last term, a group of Year 8 students took part in the final debate on ‘alternative medicine versus traditional medicine’ as part of the ‘Healing Histories’ project they are involved with.
Students dedicated time after school to research current views surrounding the topic. During their preparation, they were privileged to meet with researchers from the Royal College of Physicians, book experts from the British Library, librarians from the British Museum and they even received training from the English Speaking Union.
It was fantastic to see our students using the skills they had learnt to deliver a confident, compelling and convincing argument which focused on the health benefits of chocolate.
After some tough competition, Regent High School students came second, but by only one point! Congratulations to all students who took part and who were a credit to the school. The debate, which was filmed, will be made available to Camden Schools to encourage others to develop their public speaking skills.
