New Chair of Governors joins Regent High School's Governing Body
NEW CHAIR OF GOVERNORS JOINS REGENT HIGH SCHOOL’S GOVERNING BODY
Regent High School has welcomed to its Governing Body a new Chair of Governors, Vivienne Porritt, to succeed the retiring long-serving Chair of Governors, Jill Hoffbrand. Vivienne will chair her first meeting of the Governing Body on 16 July 2014.
Vivienne Porritt is the Director of School Partnerships at the Institute of Education, University of London, and brings to the governing body a wealth of in-school experience, including as a headteacher and local authority curriculum adviser.
Departing Chair of Governors, Jill Hoffbrand, has been instrumental in supporting Regent High School to become a ‘Good’ school and through the process of being rebuilt. Serving two four-year terms as Chair, Jill has demonstrated strength, determination and commitment to the school, helping it to become the vibrant and successful place it is today.
Academic success and student achievement are integral to Regent High School’s ethos as an 11-19 co-educational comprehensive. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2012 in recognition of the school’s recent improvements, the new school buildings will provide students and the local community with unrivalled learning and recreational facilities in the heart of one of the most dynamic areas of London.
The appointment of Vivienne to the role of Chair of Governors further cements Regent High School’s partnership with the Institute of Education, University of London (IOE). Regent High School has been one of three schools this academic year to have participated in an innovative teacher training opportunity, which has seen a member of staff from Regent High School seconded to a role as a Tutor in Professional Practice supporting trainee teachers to develop outstanding teaching, while one of the IOE’s Teach First Subject Leads has worked with Regent High School to support the development of excellent practice at the school. Regent High School and the IOE have also collaborated on research projects, most recently a Camden Partnership for Educational Excellence (CPEE)-funded project to understand and improve careers education, information, advice and guidance for young people.
Rosemary Leeke, Headteacher of Regent High School, commented: ‘Vivienne’s appointment helps to secure Regent High School’s future on its trajectory towards becoming an ‘Outstanding’ school. Vivienne joins us at an important point in Regent High School’s development, as we prepare to unveil our new school buildings that will see generations of Camden’s young people learn in one of the most advanced learning environments in London. I am glad that our important partnership with the IOE has been further enhanced. In welcoming Vivienne, I would also like to express the school’s sincerest thanks to our departing Chair of Governors, Jill Hoffbrand, for the tireless commitment she has shown to the school.’
Vivienne Porritt, newly appointed Chair of Governors, said: ‘I am delighted to take up this post and build on our existing partnership with Regent High School and Camden, at an exciting time in the school’s development. Our deeper and sustained partnership will also enable the IOE’s teaching and research to continue to be relevant and grounded in the reality of school and classroom life. We see this as an integral aspect of the IOE’s school partnerships work and I look forward to meeting staff, students and parents in the near future.’
