GCSE results 2018

Regent High School is today celebrating the fantastic performances of students in this year’s GCSE examinations. The results mean that students have access to a wide selection of courses for post-16 study, providing a firm foundation for success as they progress to Regent Sixth Form or elsewhere to study a variety of A Level, BTEC National and Cambridge Technical courses.

Stand-out individual performances include:

Joanna John, who previously attended St Aloysius Catholic Primary School, achieved a brilliant two grade 9s (higher than an old A*), four grade 8s (equivalent to an A*), one A*, one grade 7, one grade A and one grade 5;

Roberto Lacourt, formerly of St George the Martyr C of E Primary School, achieved a grade 9 in Mathematics, three grade 8s, three grade 7s and 2 grade 6s;

Nabihah Ahmed, who went to St Mary and St Pancras C of E Primary School, achieved grade 9s in Art and History, two grade 8s, three grade 7s, a grade 6 and a grade 4;

Abass Bare, who joined Regent High School in Year 9, achieved grade 9s in Biology and English Literature, three grade 8s, two grade 7s and a B grade;

Taslima Anjum, who also attended St Mary and St Pancras C of E Primary School, achieved grade 9s in Mathematics and RE, one grade 8, two grade 7s and four grade 6s.

In total, 14 grade 9s – the highest grade possible in the revised GCSE grading system – were awarded to Regent High School students in a range of subjects including Art, Biology, English Literature, History, Languages, Mathematics and RE.

Joanna John said that the teachers at Regent High School had helped her to ‘make sure I kept trying’ through their constant motivation. Joanna will join Regent Sixth Form to study A Levels in Business, English, Psychology and Sociology, and gave the following advice to younger students: ‘Start revising from the beginning of Year 11, even if is only a small amount; it will all help’. Roberto said that Regent High School is a really supportive school, and that teachers ‘will try their best to get you the best grades you can’. Roberto is intending to study A Level Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics, and wants to then study Mathematics at Cambridge.

Gary Moore, Headteacher, said of the results: ‘Our Year 11 students have once again worked extremely hard and I would like to congratulate them on their excellent results. I would also like to thank our committed and dedicated staff who have supported these students through consistently high quality teaching.   These results demonstrate our students’ strong progress, regardless of their starting points, and prepare them for success in the future.’
