REGENT HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRATES AS, A LEVEL, GCSE AND BTEC SUCCESS
Regent Sixth Form students and staff are celebrating another successful year of A Level and BTEC National results, with an overall pass rate of 98% and a substantial increase in one year of 12 percentage points at the higher A*-C grades and equivalent.
Results continue to improve at A Level with A*-A grades increasing to 15%, up 5 percentage points, and A*-C grades to 70%, up 10 points. AS Level results are also improving, especially at the higher grades.
Many Year 13 students have secured places at their chosen universities, including Westminster, Middlesex, Brighton, Oxford Brookes and Portsmouth, as well as at the prestigious Russell Group institution of Queen Mary, University of London. These ambitious students will be studying a range of courses, including Biomedical Science, Sports Journalism, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology. Two students have also secured places at the celebrated Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, University of the Arts London, to study Art Foundation courses.
We are also delighted to announce an impressive performance in this year’s GCSE examinations, with a 5 percentage point increase in the proportion of students achieving 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths. The individual English and Maths subject results are particularly impressive, with English showing a 13 percentage point increase on last year; additionally, the proportion of students achieving the English Baccalaureate has almost doubled over the same period.
These results mean that students will have access to a wide selection of courses for post-16 study, providing a firm foundation for success as they progress to Regent Sixth Form – which saw a significant increase last week in the number of entries awarded the top A*-A grades or equivalent – or elsewhere, to study a variety of A Levels and BTEC National courses.
Outstanding individual performances at A Level and BTEC National include:
Rahmanullah Hayat, Senior Student Leader, who achieved three top A Level grades (A/A/B) in Biology, History and Chemistry and has secured a place at Queen Mary, University of London, to study Biomedical Sciences.
Naz Jumaa, also a Senior Student Leader, who is going to study Biomedical Science at Oxford Brookes University after obtaining three B grades in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Ryan Headlam, another top achiever, gained an A*, B and C grade in Mathematics, Physics and Psychology, as well as an A grade in AS Level Further Mathematics. Ryan is passionate about Physics and will be going to Queen Mary, University of London, to study the subject.
Suheb Ahmed has an ambition to become a maths teacher after being inspired by Regent High School’s maths teachers, and is looking forward to studying Mathematics at Sussex University, having achieved an A at A Level Mathematics, a Distinction* in BTEC Sport and a B in AS Level Further Mathematics.
Successful students at GCSE include:
Refath Uddin Ahmed, Mojida Akhtar, Naeem Ali, Shahzia Begum, Fahima Hoque, Niamh McLoughlin and Idil Mohamud, who all achieved 11-12 A*-C grades including a number of the top A*/A grades. Shahzia and Niamh did exceptionally well, achieving 10 A*/A grades each.
Successful student, Sharna Curtis, commented, “Staff at Regent High School have encouraged and motivated me throughout my time at the school to achieve results above and beyond my expectations and to realise my true potential”. Sharna is looking forward to joining Regent Sixth Form in September to further her studies before applying to university.
