Developing our international partnerships

The Brazilian Street Child World Cup team, all former street children, visited Regent High School to meet with Year 8 Geography students who are currently studying the issues facing street children in Brazil.

Our visitors took a short tour of the school, evidently impressed with the developments taking shape. Students then had the opportunity to speak with their guests about their different lives, learning about each of their cultures. Following the informal chat, the youngsters participated in a number of workshops including Samba drumming and t-shirt printing, a ‘buddying’ peer mentoring activity and a friendly football match, which was filmed by the BBC and broadcast online. We were extremely honoured to host the Brazilian Street Child World Cup team and it was fantastic to use the mediums of sport, language and music to explore the global issue of children living and working on the streets.
