An inspiring insight into film production

As part of Creativity Week in May students from Years 7-10 worked on a film animation project with award-winning video production company Chocolate Films and the British Library, the national and prestigious research library of the United Kingdom.

The opportunity came as part of the Young Researchers project which aims to engage young people with a project themed around a current exhibition at the Library’s collection and focuses on empowering students, building confidence and developing skills.

The exhibition our students explored was called Writing Britain and students were required to conduct research and develop the narratives for their animated films over a series of workshops over the course of 6-10 weeks.

In the final week of the project Mark Currie and the team from Chocolate Films worked with the group across four intensive days. Students produced art work and learnt film making, sound recording and editing techniques. As a result of participating in the project, students will receive as ASDAN award for their creative work.

There will be a public screening of students’ films in the Curzon Cinema Soho on Saturday 10 November, further details coming soon.

It was a pleasure to work, once again, with talented students from Regent High School on this highly creative and innovative film project inspired by our Writing Britain exhibition. Professional filmmakers from Chocolate Films developed participants’ skills in animation, editing and sound recording and we hope the young people will continue to develop their passion for film-making and working with cultural collections.
