A Servant to Two Masters

STUDENTS TAKE TO THE STAGE 

A cast of 13 Regent High School students is busy with the final preparations for this week’s performances of the school production of A Servant to Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni, translated by Gwenda Pandolphi and adapted by Lee Hall, best known as the author of Billy Elliot. 

Since the beginning of September, the cast of students, drawn from Years 7 to 13, have worked tirelessly to produce what promises to be a terrific evening’s entertainment.  They have mastered the diverse skills needed to perform this commedia dell’arte-inspired play.

A Servant to Two Masters is a classic hilarious, farcical tale of misunderstandings.  It tells the story of a mischievous servant, Truffaldino, desperate for a good meal.  In his quest for good food he finds himself working for two masters (twice the money, twice the food!) while trying to keep the two from ever finding out.  Cue a woman dressed as man, numerous beatings, a very complicated five-course meal and a couple of marriages thrown in for good measure, as comedy chaos ensues. 

A Servant to Two Masters is the inspiration for the successful National Theatre production of One Man, Two Guvnors, which is currently playing in the West End at Theatre Royal Haymarket.

In the audience of Regent High School’s production will be cast members’ families and friends, and staff and governors of the school. 

The production will be performed at 6.00pm in the Theatre at Regent High School on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 December.
