We place great emphasis on the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects at our school. As part of our commitment to raising the profile of STEM subjects and increasing student interest and passion for the subjects, we ensure our students are given exclusive opportunities to work with inspirational teachers, question prestigious scientists and take field trips to key sites, helping develop their knowledge and understanding of the four subjects.

Opportunities through STEM
'Ask A Nobel Scientist'
Students from Regent High School were invited to join some of the UK’s leading scientists to launch National Science and Engineering Week. Our students were given the opportunity to debate, discuss and ask questions to Nobel Prize winner Sir Tim Hunt and Cancer Research UK’s London Research Institute representative Dr Julie Cooper. This opportunity was made available to our students through The Francis Crick Institute; a consortium of six of the UK's most successful scientific and academic organisations — the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK, the Wellcome Trust, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King's College London and will be providing educational programmes for schools located within Somers Town. The Rolls Royce of awards
As part of our commitment to raising the profile of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects at our school and increasing student interest and passion for the subjects, we entered the Rolls Royce Science Prize, an annual rewards programme that recognises inspirational teaching in science. The competition challenged our team of teachers and students to build a radio-controlled model race car and then develop a smoothie product. Both tasks challenged students to use their communication, problem-solving and presentation skills to achieve real results.
After months of hard work developing their projects, our science team were delighted they were awarded 9th place in the prestigious Science Prize, out of an amazing 2,000 applicants. As a result of this fantastic achievement, the school was presented with £6,000 to spend on STEM resources. The competition has been an excellent experience and revealed some excellent potential and talent from our students. We look forward to entering the competition again next year with more budding scientists.
Science Field Trip
Our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Gifted and Talented students went to Hastings on an educational science trip which introduced students to landforms, rocks, geological processes, fossils, and the processes that formed them. They were privileged to visit three key sites that illustrate the geology and the Palaeo-environment that formed Kent over the last 145 million years. As a result of the trip, students now have a greater understanding of the principles and processes that they will encounter in the earth science units in both the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 science courses.
